The goal of the North Ridgeville Heart & Sole Challenge is to increase access to physical activity and healthy foods leading to a City where the healthy choice is the easiest choice for seniors, school-aged children, parents, adults, and individuals who work for a North Ridgeville employer.
Heart & Sole is one of the 11 Community Collaborative powered by United Way of Greater Lorain County that are working to improve the health, education, and financial stability of all residents in our community.

The Lorain County Safe Community Coalition is using unexpected strategies to remind everyone that summer celebrations must include sober driving plans. During the Lorain International Festival last weekend, Coalition members posted fliers on the doors of portable toilets – the fliers offered tips on how to find a sober ride home. Next, in preparation for Independence Day, the Coalition will team up with 10 Discount Drug Mart locations to display ways to get a sober ride on water bottles.
Popeye the Sailor Man had it right – you’re strong to the finish if you eat your spinach... and other fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are the ultimate power foods because they are full of vitamins and minerals that help make a body healthy and strong. They have more water and fiber than other foods, which keep the body hydrated and regular. Fruits and vegetables are also low in calories—perfect to help manage or lose weight.
