Now Accepting Physical Activity & Nutrition Mini Grant Applications
3/12/10 -- Live Healthy Lorain County Partners workgroup is offering Mini Grants to encourage increased physical activity and improved nutrition in Lorain County community groups through environmental systems change. The available mini grants are a great way to get community members focused on moving more and eating better.

Grant proposals should include creative ways to integrate physical activity and better nutrition into the community group's environment.

The mini grants can be used for one of the following physical activity or nutrition initiatives and equipment choices:

  1. Safe walking route mapping and pedometer walking promotion.

  2. Fitness initiatives using DDR or Nintendo Wii Equipment.

  3. Garden to table nutrition program.
    -Track 1: Plant an on-site garden
    -Track 2: Healthy fruit and/or vegetable preparation demonstrations

  4. Snackwise nutritional rating system for packaged snacks.

This opportunity is open to Lorain County community groups only, one application per community group. Up to 9 community groups will be funded with a maximum of $500 per grant request. Equipment/material will be distributed in May 2010 to be used between June 1 and September 31, 2010.

Deadline for application submission is April 19, 2010.

The physical activity and nutrition mini grants are funded by the Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and administered by the Ohio Department of Health, Bureau of Health Promotion and Risk Reduction, Creating Healthy Communities Program through the Lorain County General Health District.
