One Third of Lorain County crashes in 2009 were alcohol related. In Lorain County in 2009, there were 18 total crashes with 23 people killed. Of those 18 crashes 4 have been confirmed as DUI related, with 2 cases pending.

You can help reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by impaired driving by taking the following precautions:

Ask guests to designate a driver who will not drink alcohol

Arrange for cab rides, coordinate rides with the designated driver or invite guests to spend the night prior to the party

Do not serve alcohol to anyone under 21 years of age. It is illegal and unhealthy

Be sure to offer plenty of non-alcoholic drink options, try one of our recipes!

Avoid open bars and have someone designated to mix drinks

Plan group activities so that drinking is not the focal point of the party

Stop serving alcohol at least one hour before your party is over. Serve a dessert treat with coffee, tea or soft drinks to end the night with your guests

Remind your guests to buckle up! It is the best defense against impaired driving

For safety's sake, never drive after drinking!

Enjoy your Holiday Season! Be responsible and do not drink and drive
